Candy Gibbs

I received this email below last week and I just have to share it with you.  This is from a “friend of a friend” who I have never met personally.  He IS making a difference right where he is and I am proud to partner with him in the Kingdom.  I’m in awe of the impact that Rescue has continued to have–even a little over a year in publication.  If one family is challenged and encouraged by it to make a change, well then, it’s all been worth it.

Candy,

I wanted to pass along an effect you have had on me even though we haven’t met.  As I look at our society’s culture I have to admit a tendency of hopelessness that it won’t get better.  It’s going downhill at a rate faster than ever before and there’s nothing I can do to change it.  Over the summer I got the Rescue book.  My wife has it, I haven’t read it yet but have heard you speak a couple of times and absolutely love what you have to say.  Anyway, I gave the book to a friend.  He is a good Christian man with wonderful values, but has a tendency to keep up with Joneses in the “all the other kids have it so we should too”  sense.  So I gave him your book and said I think he’d like it.  Within a couple of days he texted me and said “you have no idea how much we needed this now.”  He later tells me that while reading this book he and his wife decided to check one of their kids’ phones, an 11 year old with an iPhone.  They looked at the history and discovered that for the past 3 months the boy had been on a pornographic site every single day.  They were obviously shocked and have since gone into correction mode of mistakes they feel like they were making with their kids.  I share that story to say “thank you” for 1) making a difference in families’ lives.  You speak truth, you say things that need to be said and do it in a wonderful way, and 2) thank you for reminding me that we can make a difference and that as corny as it sounds, affecting one person at a time is really the only way we can make a difference.  I wish you guys continued blessings in the wonderful work you do!
