“Sodom and Gomorrah were not destroyed solely because sinners were sinning.  The cities were destroyed because the righteous could not be found.”  Dr. Tony Evans

I recently listened to a message by Dr. Evans that he preached at GateWay Church entitled, “Keep Hope Alive.”  Dr. Evans was reading from Genesis 18 where the Lord revealed to Abraham that Sodom and Gomorrah would be destroyed.  Abraham asked the Lord to refrain from judgement if fifty righteous men could be found.  Abraham works his way all the way down to ten, convincing the Lord to not destroy the cities if only ten righteous people could be found.  Well, we all know how it worked out.  The cities were destroyed meaning not even ten righteous could be found…not ten righteous.

As we consider our vote in this year’s presidential election, I agree neither option will likely make us jump for joy.  Okay, that is an extreme understatement.  Both options have kept me up at night, incited passionate discussions, and made me literally feel physically ill.  I, for one, will not be putting my trust in either of them.  They frighten me…both of them.

I will not be putting my trust in either candidate, but I will cast my vote for one of them.  Not because they don’t frighten me, but because there is one thing that frightens me even more than our two candidates.

“The Lord answered, ‘Listen to them and give them a king.'” 1 Samuel 8:22

Listen to the people and give them what they ask for…wow.  Can you imagine where we will be if the Lord makes the same statement about America…give them what they ask for?  Let’s lay this story, the story of the Israelite people rejecting God as their King and asking Samuel to provide for them a King alongside the story of Sodom and Gomorrah in which the Lord says, if I can find the righteous, I will not send my judgement.

I will tell you that my vote this year will be for a platform that I support…a platform that stands for life, that will appoint judges who will truly respect the Constitution, support our military, protect our innocent civilians, and stand for freedom of religion and all the values that I hold dear.  Once I cast my vote for the platform I most closely align with I will pray for whichever of the candidates (neither of which do I support, trust, or respect) is chosen.  I will pray that Father would direct their heart and motives and that His will be done on earth.

But when our good God canvasses the earth for the righteous…I won’t be found sitting down.

Vote.

My love,
