Isaiah 40:11, “He tends his flock like a shepherd: He gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them close to his heart; he gently leads those that have young.”

All through His Word, the Lord reminds us that He will never leave us.  He holds our children close to His heart, carrying them.  He gently leads us.  He will not forsake us.

I remember being the uncertain momma of a newborn baby asking the Lord not to let me mess this up.  I reminded Him countless times of who I am…surely He’d not forgotten.  I wanted to be a good mom but I knew I was still not “all grown up” myself and such a work in progress.  I still struggled.  I still had fears and I was the mom.  I shed tears, laughed a little, but mostly stared in shock at that little bundle of life.

Things haven’t changed all that much.  My bundles of life are now young adults.  But, I feel the same way I did those many years ago and have repeated those same words to the Father only much more frequently.

“Lord, please don’t let me mess this up.  You do remember it is me we are talking about.  I so want to be a good mom, but I still need parenting myself.  I struggle and I can be afraid.  I am the adult, but Lord I am so over my head.”  I still shed tears, laugh a little, but mostly stare at sleeping teenagers with a heart full to bursting with love.

And, He reminds me…”he gently leads those that have young.”  He tends to us and He carries, not only my teenagers near to His heart, but He holds me there too.

He is our hope.  Our rescue.
