Praying for Your Teen & Pornography

PrayingForYourTeenTen

“For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he…” Proverbs 23:7 (KJV)

“Be self-controlled and alert.  Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.  Resist him, standing firm in the faith…And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong firm and steadfast.”  2 Peter 5:8-9a,10

“No temptation has seized you except what is common to man.  And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear.  But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.”  1 Corinthians 10:13

My co-workers and I were just discussing this…be self controlled and alert because your enemy prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.  There was a day in which I believe the enemy had to be cunning and sneaky, to try and disguise himself.  He could get in, but it may have been a bit more changing for him.  Our culture has so plummeted that now he can brazenly walk right through the front door in all of his filth, evil and repulsiveness and we barely bat an eye.

Pornography has been a trap of the enemy for generations.  In the American culture, just a few short years ago, there was certainly porn addiction, but it required a lot more effort on the part of the person to fall into it.  One would have to visit a porn store on the edge of town, walk up to the counter and purchase the porn in clear view of others.  Today, pornography is readily available to even children, free of charge and in complete privacy.  There are no safe guards…that is unless parents take the problem seriously, take their parenting seriously and take a stand.

Step one as parents is to realize this is an easy one for us to fall into as well.  I believe that pornography is one of the most prevalent and powerful temptation facing Christian men today.  Women are succumbing to the temptation as well with the outrageous infatuation with books and movies like 50 shades of Grey.  It is porn, you simply can’t excuse it and it isn’t up for debate.  The stand starts with us and we are certainly the one raising (or lowering) the standards in our own homes.

We must draw a line in the sand for our children….not in our home, not at our school, not in our church, not in our community, not in our country.

Not on our watch…

“Lord we take captive every thought of our sons and daughters and we bind their will to the will of Christ.  I thank you Lord Jesus that they are more than conquerors and will not be tripped up or overcome by the common or uncommon attacks of the enemy.  They are about their Father’s business and do not have time or energy for distractions.  They are children of purpose and with a pure heart and the call of God on the souls they will advance and take ground for the Kingdom.  No more messing around with the wiles of the enemy.  These are men and women of valor with a warriors heart…a heart that beats fast after their righteous King.  I love you.”

I Corinthians 10:3-5 “For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of this world. On the contrary, they have the divine power to demolish strongholds.”

Pray for your teen—they are inundated with sexual images, crude language, and a multitude of hostile attacks on our faith.

1 Corinthians 10:6 “We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”

1 Corinthians 10:13 “No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man.  God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.”

Job 31:1 “I made a covenant with my eyes not to look lustfully at a young woman.”

Galatians 5:16 “But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.”

1 Peter 1:14 “As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance.”

Colossians 3:5  “Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.”
