Ephesians tells us that the sword of the Spirit is the Word of God.  I have often thought that when a group of believers come together to study His Word, the sound of the pages flipping in their Bibles must sound like a sword coming out of its sheath to the enemy!  I love the thought of that.

Recently, about 30 women in our community from many different backgrounds, denominations, and age groups have started meeting together to do a Beth Moore Bible study, “Children of the Day”. My friend and co-leader, Debbie, described it best, “I just kept looking across the room and there was just so much beauty there.”  Amen!  Women studying the Word are beautiful individually and collectively!

For several years, I participated in a women’s study until a few years ago.  In 2011, personally my life was turned upside down and I laid down leading a study for a season.  A few weeks ago, I had a rare opportunity to sit with a friend and as we shared, I said, “You know I think it is time for some fellowship.”  One of the things Beth said this week in our video lesson was, “Independence is a sign of immaturity in the Body – we are meant for community.”  We need each other.  Particularly as women, who are so relational, it is important to have a group that we can both receive ministry and provide it all at the same time.

I love this study.  Here is the summer on the back cover, “Grocery shopping, strolling through the park, or grabbing coffee – are never without His light.” In my 40 years of living, I have come to realize that rarely, if ever, our lives are all one or the other, all good or all bad.  It’s more like a fruit basket, there are beautiful ripe apples and peaches, but there are a few lemons sprinkled in as well.  Beth describes it as, “Pain and beauty tangled in a big knot called hope.”

“Children of the Day” is a wonderful, powerful study and you would love it!  But I would encourage you to find a study of some kind in your area.  It will only take a couple of hours out of your week and it will be like a breath of fresh air.  Some time for you to be with women who are focused on following Christ, being a great wife and mom, and doing it with as much excellence and vulnerability as is possible.  We need each other.  You deserve a good cup of coffee and few minutes at the foot of the throne with your sisters.  It will be worth your while!

My love,
